Why would people be rooting for the main features to be visual updates? Why would you even pay for that?
Now full-disk encryption - THAT is a nice (and useful) new feature!

some review of the core2duo (don't remeber the site but it was very reputable) showed that with current software the 4MB cache gives you only 5-7% over the 2MB cache. the 2MB cache chips are much cheaper so that would be a good alternative for the macbooks. i'd buy one.
there are other improvements besides more cache. core duo 2 has seriously beefed up vector-units, advanced memory prefetch and other goodies. iirc, it should be about 20% faster, clock for clock

RIM was the smartphone market for a brief period of time, they really should be doing better than what they are right now.
RIM didn't have any vision, though, and were eclipsed by Apple and Google.
I owned a BB Storm and it was a piece of junk, the Torch fell flat and now the Playbook has been delayed.
I wonder who is going to buy RIM out, they are in desperate need of a hit product. RIM needs a halo product as badly as Apple did before the iPod came out.

The fall release would reportedly also coincide with the release of a third-generation iPad (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/09/ipad-3-to-arrive-this-september/)
iPad 3 this fall? I thought it was next month? iPad 4 this fall and iPad 5 for Xmas would make more sense to me...
If Apple starts playing that game they will loose credibility, customers would be kind of lost. One breakthrough per year is good...no more and for sure no less.

Anyone know what the figures are for the UK?
I get the feeling Apple products are a lot more common in the US and they have a more loyal following.
I see more people with a larger variety of devices in the UK, which is nice. Good to see individuals selecting handsets that suit them, rather than just following the pack.
I'd be interested to see UK market share, Nokia would have a higher share here to I guess. Albeit nothing like that it was a few years ago.
Actually I'd expect there to be a lot of non smart phones still in the UK, on old 18 or 24 month contracts coming to an end, so smartphone share could well jump a lot in the next year of so in the UK. Be interesting to see which way it goes.

Puhleeeeze. We are not concerned about your average criminal or private investigator. We are concerned about the us government, homeland security, cia, nsa, fbi, etc.
Who has easy access to that info even on dumb phones. That is not the issue here.
All Apple needs to do is flush the file once a day(s), encrypt the file on the phone and not back it up (and if there's a reason, to have that encrypted [which can already be done]).
Incorrect. It makes absolutely no sense to store ALL locations/WiFi data/timestamps indefinitely for what you described. The data should be processed and pruned to be used efficiently.
That's what he said: "The only difference is that Apple left out a time based truncation feature."

I believe the iPad 3 out in thee. Fall to be BS.
I believe iPhone 5 and IOS 5 to be released TOGETHER whether in June or the Fall.
My #1 request for iPhone 5?is 64GB. My 32GB 3GS only has 0.68GB available.

Huh. This is really cool, but I'm not familiar with the brand...don't know if it's good, or even legitimate for that matter.
Still, it's cool to see someone finally offer it free. Windows has had multiple choices for a few years, so this is good news for OS X fans!
Sophos provides solutions mainly for large corporations. Its as legitimate as it can get. Whats good about is the small foot print their software takes. So its all business and no nonsense "turbo meters" etc. like with Intego Virus Barrier. Honestly I have no idea why they are giving away Home version for free. The business solutions are expensive. Then again if you really want to sell to corporations it makes sense to give people free home versions to gain presence and goodwill. After all those free Home version using people work in corporations...

The Apple iPhone would have to be better in functionality than a Blackberry to be considered useful, unless they can work out a better input device method or utilize Microsoft's Vista speech recognition program.
Riiiiight...Apple is going to utilize Microsoft's speech recognition...
And why "better than Blackberry"? The Blackberry is practically the perfect corporate phone...the iPhone will probably not compete in that market.

I just bought a Nokia 6682 and find the Symbian OS Smart Phone to be a wonderful phone. I will not be buying an iphone unless it comes in GSM with a mobile browser, full email POP support, instant messaging photo/video and mmp3 playback... and even then it won't be worth the cost.... they better pull something out of the bag because this phone rules!

As for being more restrictive, you're choosing to break the terms of the licence if you install it on more than one machine.
For rule-breakers it's more restrictive.
For rule-followers it's less restrictive.
I thought we were talking about rule-breakers which is why I'm going on and on about how it's more restrictive.

Apple is one greedy corporation that just loves to attack.. typical of the coming corporate takeover of humanity.
Of course! Any company that makes money has to be greedy! Even worse, they keep making the products so darn good, people keep buying them! How frick'n evil and corrupted can you get! If they really cared, they'd produce junk so we'd all stop buying!

Wow, why all the hatin'? This is what they did before. This is the way things are headed. I see another sub $1000 just like the iBook, that's a given. I'm hoping for a cheaper one, but not expecting it for awhile. Could be months, could be years. But as prices drop, it will happen. It's only a matter of time. The iBook never went under $999. I barely call that a sub-$1000 laptop. But whatever you say. I'll agree that $999 looks better then $1000 though. :p
yeah i would love a MBP with:
Black Case
Better Graphics Chip
Blu-ray drive (perhaps? apple is cutting edge in HD this would solidify it)All of these Blu-Ray fans scare me. Considering they're having trouble fabricating the 50 GB discs..

EDIT - And don't say "Common" when you mean "Come on."
I stand corrected - probably should have said 'C'mon'.
If its only downloadable movies I think there will be Nothing for Aus, so I will join you in the 'meh'.

Just don't make it obsolete by removing any features. SP version could easily be smaller but the DP version is already small compared to others.

Nor, methinks this iPhone shall ever happen. What would Apple gain in becoming a cell phone provider? Its a nasty market with no concensus between camps.
I stated this exactly in a previous thread but I could change my stance if I could be convinced of one or more of the following were possible.
1. Could Apple improve their iChat to compete with the likes of skype, etc?
2. Could Apple provide such a service?
3. Could Apple create an iPod tele without removing what is already available in an iPod?
4. Could there be a iTel AV to connect to iChat AV.
Even if the photographer's visit was legit from the sound of it, it is an entirely new product so I'd have to assume that it was just another phone. Whomever they jump into bed with (service provider) would have to be big, really big. Another thing detracting from the story is that the telephone companies are notoriously slow getting product into their stores whereas when Apple releases something it is in store (Apple store that is) rather quickly. AND I don't see Apple selling another company's cell phone service in-store.

It is funny the same people who would have blasted Apple to the moon for doing something like this not only don't call Amazon out on it, but actually blame Apple for it.
It is silly yet predictable.

Obviously Lion will not follow App Store conventions seeing as it isn't an app.
Why put it in the App Store if it isn't an App?

I never would suggest that Apple is going to tank/go back to HP manufactured iPod Mini...lol
I just want other companies to succeed, if only to make my Apple products that much better. For instance, Id love to see the iP5 have a 4inch screen (im sure many disagree)...that could be a possibility because of some HTC success (Evo, Inspire...etc). BTW: Glad to hear youre a very contemplative buyer, it always pays off. Stay well friend, have a wonderful day.
With how much time Apple spent on the retina display, seeking an extremely high resolution it would almost seem counter intuitive to make the screen any bigger. I don't foresee that ever happening but hey you never know.

What's stopping Apple from putting 6, 8 of these little bastards on the motherboard? This way they can make up for any speed advantage Intel has right now.
