There is nothing wrong with companies using resources abroad. It's called specialization. Why produce something for more money and less efficiently when it can be done better and cheaper elsewhere?
Because it's rapidly becoming the case that EVERYTHING can be produced more cheaply in places like China and India -- even things that were previously thought to be "safe" industries (medical X-Rays are read in India / China, legal documents are authored overseas and sent back to the US to be signed) because they required and educated or advanced workforce.
So, I turn the question back to you -- how will you afford to buy an iPod when you are asked to take a substantial (50% or more) pay cut because an individual in India or China can do YOUR job more cheaply.
Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.

The G5 is almost as fast per clock cycle.
Apple COULD have released quad G5 3ghz instead, but they want us to use Intel.
The whole Intel project is beacuse of no G5 laptop.
Stupid IBM. I do not like X86, the play plattform.
But, I have changed all my PPC macs to Intel now.
Macbook pro, Macbook, macmini and today a Macpro.Congrats on making the shift. I will probably wait for 8 cores. But I am tempted because of the 6 Bays and the additional front ports. Maybe I'll get a refurb in the Fall. Still want a Core 2 MBP more I guess. Really want 8 cores. Might just hold out until Spring so Leopard is inside 8 cores. Love Leopard features. :)

The advantage of integrating the movie service into iTunes is obvious; it's already installed on millions of computers. Okay, it'll need an update but people love all that. I'm not so sure people want another media player (unboxed for example).
What Apple need to do is tidy iTunes up. The Library's a big enough mess with videos, PDFs, Podcasts etc.

Can you name any good products made by those companies that you mentioned, that are actually built in the US. You know America SUCKS at making products when we need the media to convince us of this fact. Just watch TV, you do not see Apple advertising that they make there products in China, but you do see a bunch of other companies that slap a "Made in the USA" label gain Patriot approval. I avoid those products and save my money for products that have better quality; I dont innately hate american products, but experience has proved that they are inferior to build qualities of other nations. :apple::D

However just because one industry is less than stellar it doesn't mean all are.

The scroll bars are changed to be more iOS-like, windows are resizable from any corner, the buttons (and checkboxes AFAIK) are changed to no longer be Aqua styled. Small changes, but the sum of them is pretty substantial: All remaining traces of Aqua should now be gone.

Just as an aside, something else to keep in mind, a reason I've found that companies like to spend a lot of money on security software (or indeed software in general) is down to internal politics. For instance, if the IT director expouses a theme of free software, and the company ends up with a virus (even one that 'paid for' solution wouldn't pick up), then he will be in the firing line for not being percieved as doing all he possibly could to prevent it. So using expensive, well software is an exercise in risk transferral.
Back OT, I've not installed Sophos on my MBP yet, still waiting for more verdicts from you lot :)

Android will rule in numbers... It ha more handsets on more carriers and cheaper hardware. iOS can't compete with that unless Apple keeps old generation devices at lower prices which I find hard to believe...

Looks like they just flagged the Tomtom car kit as discontinued at BLT and are no longer carrying the item. Looking for a new place to order it around this price. Any thoughts?

Apple said it would be released in the Summer, but the GM usually comes 3-4 weeks before hand. I know it is splitting hairs with this, as I was referring to the GM.
However, considering that it could be released via App Store first, there could be a much shorter delay from GM to its release date now.

I still don't get why people are so concerned about this? Does anybody really care where other people are going? I guess if you are afraid of your wife finding it and discovering that you are hanging out at truck stops trading meth for certain favors then it could be an issue, but my wife already knows about this. In fact, she even comes along sometimes to take pictures.

The Apollo missions created generations of people who became interested in science, raised educational standards nationwide, and brought forth thousands of advancements that we still use in our daily lives.

So when scientists clamor about changing to the metric system, it raises two questions in the minds of people; 1) Why should I trust this person? and 2) Is the change really necessary?
I don't doubt scientists when they advocate for the metric system, in science. Howeve, since most of the advantages of the metric system are really reserved to the sciences, the question of whether or not everything in life should be metric really isn't a scientific one; it's an economic and convenience one. In my daily life I do not need to easily convert between the mass of water and its volume or take temperatures relative to the boiling point of water.

Can Adium do videchat to MSN? (with audio! There's no audio on the videochat's in aMSN:mad: :p )
You can't do video or audio chat with Adium, and won't be able to for a year or two at least. :(
I'm just hoping for some official support sooner or later with iChat or the official standalone clients. :)

pro: one less disc to keep track of. my family already lost my iWork disc.
cons: what if i want to format the hard drive and restart from scratch? or even just archive and install? what if i completely replace my hard drive? what if i want to sell my mac and get a new one, would i retain the license or would the buyer get it? how would they reinstall the OS after I wipe the hard drive? how long is this going to take to download? will we be able and authorized to burn our own install DVDs from the downloaded software?
Then don't buy from the Mac App Store.

Actually you're right, also knowing Apple, the truth is we won't get MBP/MB updates.
Half of the keynote will go towards demoing the Movie store and pitching it as much as humanly possible & and the other half will go towards iPod updates and one more thing...media device. Thats it. Its the classic keynote we've all come to know. As someone said...you never get all the marbles.
