I'm sure an average iPhone user thought it's more like 80%.
It was the number 1 selling phone in the world in 2010. In the US in the last quarter the iPhone was the #1 and #2 selling phone. I am not saying smartphone and I am not making a mistake. If you see a person who purchased a mobile phone in the last year, the chances are it is an iPhone.
You see more iPhones then you see of anything else because there are more iPhones then anything else.
The problem for Apple is that Android handsets come out, which are the very top and, as you say the same price, then a while later a new top Android phone comes out, so the old one gets offered to people at a lower price, then an even newer Android handset comes out, so the original one is now offered at a very lower price and so it goes on.
So, people can may a LOT for an iPhone or get an Android phone that was the very best a while ago for much less.
Apple don't tend to let old models slip down the pricing ladder in this way, hence they will always lose out from amass of sales that are at low to medium price bracket, and that's where the bulk of the consumer market is.
Apple are the only ones that lose out due to this policy.
And to be honest, a lot of people don't know, care, understand. the iPhone is just another phone, like and Android phone. they are all the same thing, you can get apps and games on them all and they are all phones.
Lots of people just don't care.
They have done well letting AT&T sell the 3GS in the US for $49. It was the #2 phone in the US last quarter after the iPhone 4. Maybe they will spread that around more in the future.
i'm from near frankfurt and i have yet to see a iPad out in the wild ... so much for portable :P but i seen one used at a friends house ^^
i see lots of iPhone's in my class tho, its kinda annoying to have a iPhone by now. we had to do a project for class recently and 4 of 5 out of my group had a iPhone 4 (with 2 of those having shattered screens - but that is another matter)
I fly from Denver to Dallas nearly every week and I have seen 1000s of iPads in the wild...it sounds like you hang out with some very clumsy people, maybe they are afraid to buy iPads.

Not a big surprise here:confused:
I am more excited to see the numbers between ATT and Verizon when iPhone 5 launches this summer. I think there may be more VZW folks holding out for 5 that didn't jump ship on 4
I definitely agree with that.

I'm sorry... it's just ugly. Now, if the screen defaulted to a matching white as well then perhaps it'd look better. In the meantime I'll stick to the black monolithic unit.
Could not agree more. The White iPhone looks like a cheap piece of garbage.

Now now, calling Budweiser a beer is a stretch as it is and calling it a lager is an insult to any properly brewed lager out there. Like someone else in this thread stated before it's a cheap diluted ricewine with hops added for something pretending to be taste. As for Chimay, never had it but if it is in the same range of products as that .... stuff.... from Anheusser operates in, it probably isn't a belgium ale either.....
Cheers,
Ahmed
Oh I agree... I merely saying it for the sake of saying it since it was being discussed that is all. Couldn't agree more!

love the design, the size is great for jogging! i wish it was rain proof, but maybe somebody will design some kind of rain proof casing. a tiny mic+software would be nice for dictation too. :)
i worry alot about people stealing my ipod, but a small device like this at its price would overcome that.

At local BestBuy and Targets, you can already see more and more availability every day.
Granted, you still may not get one but your chances improve every few days.

If Apple plan to go down this route they really need to improve their internationally available films and tv shows. I bought an Apple TV, but some of the biggest more recent movies weren't available and TV show rental is non existent. In the UK it's essentially a streaming service for you personal media library, other than that it didn't offer anything, so I sold it.

That speaks to the point these researchers are making. They used the Nike+iPod Sport Kit as their example, but their message is that all sorts of gadgets with wireless communications capabilities can have these types of problems, especially if thought isn't give to the issue during design.
Doesn't matter, if you are going to go around planting sensors and planting a transmitter in someone's backpack, there are alot easier and possibly even cheaper ways. No one in their right mind would do this other than to prove its possible.
Last i heard someone could track me when I walk down the street too

re: Eso's posting
The other thing to realize here is Lion. I don't see how you can split WWDC with an annoucment of a new phone (and a new iOS), and a new operating system 'for the rest of us'. Apple doesn't split messages. My feeling is WWDC is about Lion and nothing else, focusing on a 10.7 release sometime in July (for back to school purchases).
I can easily see iOS 5 being released in the 'iPod announcement' in Aug/Sept, with a new iPod Touch, Nano, and ('.... One More Thing...") iPhone5 (iPhone Nano?) all announced to be shipping before Nov 1 (pre Xmas Shopping).
Could be wrong, could be right, but I strongly doubt iPhone5 iOS5 news at WWDC.

LOL...really macrumors?! Are you guys that poor at comprehension?!?! I think a 5 year old could tell you they mean network traffic!
I sincerely hope this is just a ploy at generating news, otherwise someone seriously needs to return to primary school.
Sometimes it's funny when people are doing things they accuse others of doing. Other times, it's sad. This is one of those times.

Sold... 299 dollars for that? Amazing.
That's my thought exactly. This is what I wanted FC to be all along. I found myself going back to iMovie time and time again because I was so sick of dealing with FC's quirks. This is going to make pro editing a pleasure.

I am quite surprised that few posts here mention the delivery of software on media other than CD/DVD.
Jobs has made it quite clear that we ain't going to see Blu-Ray on Macs. Digital delivery is the Apple-preferred way. This is backed up by the massive data centre under construction in the USA.
Broadband internet, gaining in speed all the time, is the obvious method for future delivery. Even creaky old BT are rolling out 20meg at their exchanges. Virgin offer 50meg connections in some areas.
Apple have always been a year or two ahead when it comes to things like this. The floppy drive disappeared on Macs well before most people thought it would. Who could argue they were wrong to do so? Digital cameras came along and you could soon no longer fit an image file onto a floppy. We needed CD writing capabilities. iMovie/iDVD meant we needed DVD writing soon afterwards (Still back in the day of the 2nd gen iMac).
Our trusty CD was next in the firing line. iTunes Store showed the future well before the record companies were ready to accept it. Stop for a second and think how big your CD rack would be if all of your tunes were not downloaded? IKEA would have dedicated CD rack shops!!
Standard Def Movies on DVD's soon died and we can now own TV Show episodes via iTunes. Internet speeds and technology allow us to download HD content. 1080p content will arrive, eventually.
Apple are simply doing what they have done for the past 10 years. They are staying 1/2 to 1 full step ahead of the game.
It appears that they have skipped over Blu-Ray and i think they will kick CD/DVD in to touch quite soon as well. As the cost of flash memory drops, the overall savings of delivering software will fall. USB3 and/or LightPeak devices will be the next step and the final nail in the coffin for software on CD/DVD.
As internet speeds increase, the attraction of electronic delivery also increases. The ISP's will need to change. They will have to if they want to survive.
Electronic delivery of Music, then Movies, then TV Shows and Mobile Phone Apps brought savings to all involved. The creators don't have the production and distribution costs. We benefit as well with lower prices. How much of the final price for Logic Studio covers the fancy box, manuals, DVD's and logistics around the world? Digital delivery also ticks the boxes for their Green credentials.
Digital delivery of major software is just over the horizon.
The CD/DVD/Blu-Ray is dead. In fact, other than the user and the computer, everything physical is dead or dying.

I'm kind of a newbie to the whole GSM and EV-DO thing. Which is faster EV-DO Revision A or the CINGULAR EDGE network?
IF a GSM phone or NETWORK is so slow, what good is it? E-mail? How are we going to run Mobile iChat on our new Apple iPhones if we are running on a slow network?
edge was att wireless' stop gap effort for 2G GSM. GSM is dead. EDGE was dead a few years ago. CDMA based EVDO or UMTS are minimum requirements for next generation wireless applications. Cingular has chosen UMTS and has said publicly that they have no interest in supporting 4G efforts. Verison and Sprint use EVDO for their 3G network which is faster than UMTS. I would have to hope and guess that since EVDO is becoming the 3G defacto standard apple would chose it.

I think "Macs are slow" has to do with my belief that Macs last longer and therefore there are lots of old ones sitting around in schools. Think about a Mac that is 5 years old and a PC that is 5 years old. One stays a whole lot more usable than the other!
Also, if people are buying $299-399 budget PCs, yes they will sell more. They will also sell them more often! How long do you think someone will keep a computer that costs $300 versus one that costs $1,000-$1,200?

Every other teacher in the school is fine with it, it's just that one guy. By taking it off me, I couldn't get my coursework finished. Pretty annoying. I see everyones point that it's his network, but it's a pretty big assumption to assume that a student is 'hacking the network' because he's on a laptop.
Ever been to any of the Ivy leagues - they offer network (encrypted) so people can do exactly that: work. And a open guest network outside off the firewall... Maybe they need to update their approach
