Not gonna lie, I got my hopes up thinking the iP5 would be 4G compatible. Since it's obviously not going to be 4G, I guess I'll get a 4G droid so i can be locked into Unlimited 4G with verizon.

I think I still prefer a hard copy. If I download then I still have to burn a DVD for backup and emergency boot. I'd rather have a professionally burned copy that is going to be reliable long term.
Also I don't have a big pipe to quickly download a 3GB package. I'm living in the slow lane here w/ 2mbps DSL.

5 days to go, and I'm in need of an iPod and reallllly really really wanna get a look at this 'Leapord' thing everyone's talking about so much! So maybe I don't get my iPod, I'm still really excited. Apple's been so boring this year, with a bluetooth might mouse just about the most exciting release thus far... I have expectations Apple, don't let me dont please

Funny to see you are basing a $4000 computer purchase on a $79 piece of crap-KEA furniture - LOL.
I live in a teeny apartment, so even if I pitched the wardrobe I'd likely still be space constrained in whatever I replaced it with. Also, getting rid of furniture and installing new furniture is an enormous PITA - especially when your existing $799 wardrobe is still in great condition.
And you can get a pretty sweet Mac Pro for around $2K. All I'd need for the next few years, anyhow.
Also, shrinking the Mac Pro would cut down on the space it takes to store inventory at Apple stores, and reduce shipping costs by slashing both the weight and volume of the product. It would make the product more price competitive and/or more profitable.

I love that argument - who told Apple to only make 1 phone? Nobody it was their decision. This is PC vs Mac all over again - history repeating itself.
I can't wait to see how Steve Jobs spins this somehow at WWDC - my guess is he'll throw iPod Touches and iPads into their numbers so it doesn't look as horrible as the Nielsen chart shows.
At the end of the day, the truth hurts - Android is the new defacto platform for mobile and that means developers, developers, developers.

The MBP already feels like its about to literally melt on my desk now, and that's with the 31W Core Duo.
What's gonna happen when they drop in a 34W C2D? That's 9.6% more wattage, means more heat.
I really think the MBPand MB are under-engineered to remove the heat from the Core Duo. I hope they re-engineer the cooling before releasing the MBP C2D. IMHO, Apple has a black eye over the heat issues with their notebooks.

lol I take it you DO think they look very similar. I see that they both use icons in a grid format. So tell me, what exactly are you suggesting would give LG the grounds for any kind of lawsuit? Or is it just the icons and grid (the rest of which has been done with phone interfaces before)?

I think Apple is simply futureproofing here, and we won't see Retina displays for 3+ years, when it would be more feasible.
I agree with you, though, it would be nice if Apple was more serious about their GPUs. Maybe the switch to retina will force them to be.
Agreed re: future-proofing, but are you seriously suggesting that Apple isn't serious about GPUs? They've probably got a higher "minimum acceptable" standard for GPU performance than any other manufacturer. The one thing they don't do is chase the bleeding edge super-high-end gaming GPUs.
Also: games don't HAVE to render at native display resolutions. And as resolution gets higher, the artifacts from not being at the native level become much less visible.

Wonder if the tablets they're going for are pre-honeycomb or post? It'd be hard to compare Honeycomb UI to anything Apple's currently doing, and any tablet prior to that, there's surely plenty of prior art android tablets? There were a whole bunch (admittedly lousy chinese cheap rubbish) tablets being demo'd at every tech conference for a year before Apple even admitted they had a tablet to sell.
The tablets have to be included I guess, but it's going to be hard work. The phones are the obvious vector they're going for, they do have UI patents, but when it comes down to it, and other phone manufacturers (or rather their lawyers) see how much money is involved, I can see it getting messy as everyone who had a phone with buttons on it (and there are many) will want to take a shot.

Pretty confident (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11923858&postcount=88) there won't be an iPhone 5 this summer. The CDMA phone was just launched. It really doesn't make sense to stagger the releases (CDMA in winter, GSM in summer); it makes much more sense to unify the devices. We don't want fragmentation, do we? But no way in hell it's going to happen four months after the CDMA launch. This makes as much sense as launching an iPad 3 in the so-called "year of iPad 2". :rolleyes:

Unless there is a pre-WWDC hardware announcement, it seems like a perfect time to introduce "Thunderbolt" on the MacPro or maybe even on the iMac. It seems absurd that a laptop will remain the machine with the highest I/O speeds and capability for Apple.

I'd say if you own any Apple product the service should be free.
I rarely ever use it and wish they added more features and data storage.
I suspect this will also be the site of the Web based I-tunes of the future.

It doesn't appear to be too good at dealing with Time Machine back ups (http://recoveringphysicist.com/17/did-sophos-free-a-v-for-mac-kill-my-time-machine-backups). Tread with caution.
The issue is if you have virus or malware in your TM .sparsebundle and you try to get rid of it by deleting the file. First of all back up with virus or malware in it doesn't sound that great so one should transfer the important files from backup and start fresh with malware free backup. However, SAV shouldn't allow user to choose delete / disinfect if the problem is found on TM backup. It seems that Sophos is taking this issue very seriously and replying to users questions in general on their forums.
Anyway, I've been running SAV in one of my Mac's since they released the free home edition and I have to say I haven't noticed any negative side effects. One big no no for me would be speed impact but in all honestly I haven't noticed anything. I do work in Final Cur Pro so any slowdown on tape captures would be easily noticed (dropped frames especially on uncompressed video).

Lots of places require antivirus software installed to access their internet. I'm at uni and no mac or pc will get internet access unless they pass a test with valid and up to date antivirus. I think it's a good thing, even for mac users, as it limits the amount of viruses that are passed on.
We get McAfee on a uni license, but this might make me consider Sophos instead if it's lighter on system resources (the only thing I don't like about antivirus software...)

How on earth, in a million years could Apple say the Samsung Honeycomb Tablet is by any stretch of the imagination copying the UI of iOS on the iPad.
Have not all Apple fans been saying how terrible Honeycomb is, in comparison, and more like a complex desktop UI than the simple mobile iOS.
It's just crazy.

Apple says they will release Lion in summer, only Dev Previews have appeared so far, and suddenly people think it plausible for Apple to release a GM build in March?

they guy says it's the sleekest phone he's ever seen? i wonder if it incorporates this "none-touch" interface that was posted earlier in the week for the iPod. that'd be pretty awesome.
