Don't know if this is true, but IF Apple was to "delay" an iOS 5 release, they would start leaking those plans now.

Why not? I have one in excellent condition that I don't need anymore seeing I moved over to the MacTel iMac. I'm across the pond so can I sell it to you?

Hi,
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I will pay up to $5,000 for an Apple branded Tablet Mac.
You can almost have your $5K talet Mac today. Just get a Macbook Pro and one of these from Wacom
http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm
and plug it into the MBP's USB port. OK the packaging is not so nice. So get a wireless interface between the Wacom tablet and the Macbook that you keep in your backpack.
I think this is what Apple will release basically a "Cintiq" with a macbook inside. Kind of like an iMac is an LCD screed with a mac inside.

Not a summer update? Surprising.
I'll bang this gong again. Now someone reliable is showing a similar form factor, this is not the iPhone 5, this is iPhone 4G.
iPhone 4G announced WWDC this summer
iPhone 4G ships in September world wide with domestic USA shipment in August.
Bang a gong, get it on!

I don't think anything will get done with the extreme left and extreme right fighting it out.
With America's bleak looking future (S&P put a warning out today), something definitely has to be done. These small $10bil cuts over 10 years is not nearly enough. Those cuts are the same as me using pennies from those "Give a penny, take a penny" trays. They are moot and mean nothing.
The US needs is a complete overall of its spending and tax code.
Spending: Post every single line item on the internet so the people can see where the money is going. Place mandatory cuts on everything. Each department should be given a % of the country's income and that's all they get. NO MORE ISSUING DEBT.
Taxes: Throw away the 1 million pages of tax codes and create something much more simple. Tax income (not necessarily rates) will have to go up in order for America to survive.
-However, if income taxes go up, then make sales tax illegal. Since we are having problems with sales tax on online purchases in individual states, then just get rid of the program all together. It doesn't make sense anymore unless we have a VAT, which Americans can't afford. Sales tax is a double tax anyway. I already paid taxes on the money used to buy the goods, so why pay again?
-EVERYONE needs to pay taxes. No more of this "45% of people don't pay anything." There should be a mandatory minimum rate that you cannot drop below no matter how many deductions you have. This could be as simple as your taxes cannot drop any more than 33% of your current tax bracket. So, If you are in a 10% bracket, your taxes will be no less than 7.66%.
-Capital gains tax should only affect people making more than 50% (or some other %) of their income from capital gains. This will allow the average family to invest their money and contribute to the marketplace without being taxed on money that they already paid taxes on. Sure, they may make money or lose money on their investment, but let's cut them a break since they are using hard earned money. As for people who make more than 50% of their income from capital gains, tax them at the regular income rates.
I'm not against tax increases as long as the country is using it as a last resort. I want to see a massive effort by both parties to fix our current deficit issue. Taxes are inevitable, but lets make a good effort to reduce spending before that happens. I want to see the government act responsibly before I give them more money.

Exactly. That's the main reason in my mind this rumour holds any weight.
If anything there are more Verizon customers waiting for the iPhone 5 than those who bought the iPhone 4. If they DON'T release the iPhone 5 this year there will be pissed off Verizon AND AT&T customers.
Verizon customers who waited for the iPhone but didn't want to buy an 'old' phone when a new one was coming out in a few months and AT&T customers who are looking to upgrade.

Call me naive (or perhaps paranoid) but I've been assuming my location is being tracked since I bought my first smart phone years ago.
I never understand these things.
It's like asking a burger "did you steal anything?"
The answer will either be silence or it will be no.
Even if Apple were using and collecting tracking locations to build up databases of customer movements, they are not going to shout "YES WE ARE TRACKING PEOPLE"
It's just a silly question to ask, what do you think they will say?
If Apple want to be seen to be squeaky they have a simple answer, put a setting in the iDevices options to turn off location tracking/storage.
Simple.
Pretty much sums it up. I knew these companies would be gathering information for advertising or marketing purposes long ago. I dont care what snarky answer SJ provides, I will assume they are collecting the data and move on with my life. Apple and Google are both for profit corporations so I Im not foolish enough to think one is more honorable than the other.

1-the most useful function of av software for me is the ability to identify corrupt files [an unintended effect]
when the program scans a disk it attempts to open every file.
if a file has a bad resource or data fork it throws up an error
gives you a chance to find a good copy
works on archives too, but not disk images
i find this very useful, but have never seen it mentioned in any of these endless anti-av flame threads
2-i have a large collection of ancient mac software
these programs did get viruses [even on oem diskettes!]
virusbarrier helped me find and correct several infected files
[although it mistakenly identified an early system file as a virus! fortunately i had a backup!]
virusbarrier plays well with my g4 mac. reasonably fast, low processor use, and ok to keep installed. [very stingy with updates though]
norton works well and has generous updates, but even having it installed on my machine causes serious problems [even when it's turned off!]. and it eats process cycles for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
clam av is free, and has identified some pc files as infected, but it never caught the ancient virii that vb found. it runs a LOT slower than vb on my mac.
most interesting to me is the fact that all 3 programs give different results!
for me, virus scanning is a once in a great while thing, and of the 3 above virusbarrier is best.
what puzzles me is that i have a bunch of small pc files from the net which i am convinced are malware [exact same files with wildly different names]. none of the above agree with me.
i will give sophos a try and see what happens.
they really push a lot of fud on their site tho

Yeah a 1024 x 1024 icon is amazing considering I would bet a significant amount of 1024 x 768 monitors are still being used. Imagine not being able to view an icon in its entirety on a five-year-old monitor!
Indeed they are, and still being sold today.

Another option:
they may include an instant-on iOS in addition to an intel OSX environment. Several other manufacturers have done something similar.

Why do I have some weird feeling that they will update the entire product line at WWDC?
If they did, it could work out quite well from a marketing point of view. However, I doubt it will all happen at WWDC. Maybe around September.

there are other improvements besides more cache. core duo 2 has seriously beefed up vector-units, advanced memory prefetch and other goodies. iirc, it should be about 20% faster, clock for clock

Yes but then we are in the sequence search then move as opposed to move then search.
From what was said in the rules, search then move is not desirable.
My vote is to move to another room and start searching it.
i second this motion. we could also split and move to and search two rooms, but it's probably best to wait for at least one up-level before we split.
which room is irrelevant.
another option, since from the GM's words the first round seems to be safe, would be to split in three groups: one goes to each of the adjacent rooms and then we all explore the thre next rooms. the next round we can converge back to the start room, explore it and be a single group again
the positive is that we find any treasure in the first 3 rooms, we expand the map, we also give less hint on where we can go next to mscriv.
the negative is that any treasure only applies to some of the people, and that we have to come back here to rejoin.

Didn't all your methods, whatever they are called, give a priority to do the parenthesis operation first?
It is not my assumption, it is the method/explanation given by others.
My initial answer is and will always be 2.
My Mac can't be wrong.
Mac OS X can't be wrong.
Not here.
A Mac in MacRumors can't fail.
On the other hand Wolfram Alpha came up with 288, and so did Google.
This all comes down to how you read the "/" If you assume it's a fraction bar, you get 2. If you assume it's a division sign, you get 288. When it's not clear what it's meant to be, division is the standard interpretation because even when "/"is used in fractions, it is essentially acting like a division sign. If you want to express a giant fraction, just use the right amount of parentheses.

How wrong you are.
This software actually protects for more than just viruses, it also removes trojans which HAVE been written for Mac. It also removes Windows viruses that you as a user can still pass on to other people. It removed 3 trojans from my machine, yes they were Windows trojans, BUT I will now not pass them on in emails, etc.
Be ignorant if you like, but one day soon we will all be caught out.
It found 7 trojans (6 for Windows and 1 for OS X) on my Mac.
Btw, how does one know if their computer is virus/malware/adware free if they never scan for it?

Just as the heroes began to look around the closet, the torch flickered and its life left. They huddled together in the darkness for a second until they heard the click of Rosius' staff on the floor and saw its head come to life, casting a dim blue light fainter than the torch's.
They began walking around the room, sticking to the wall on their left. Rhon, Loras and Jorah all wore looks of determination after they had just lost their dear but foolish friend Wilmer. Dante and Beatrice hung close to Rosius who led them around the room. It wasn't long before they realized they were back were they started, and the door in was also the door out.
Just as Dante let out a sight of frustration, Rosius turned his head to study a line in the bricks that they had just passed. As he scrutinized it further, he realized it was no ordinary wall, so he gave it a light shove. The wall moved, stone biting against stone as it kicked up dust while it swung inward.
Inside, gleaming in the staff's blue light, was a solid gold cylinder with two spheres making up its base.
"It's a weapon!" exclaimed Jorah.
"No," Loras interjected "I think it's a sceptre of some sort."
"Who cares what it is" Rhon declared. "It's gold."
The heroes have found a treasure and leveled up.

How many people think this is some elaborate scheme to get people to think it will come out in the fall, when they might be setting people up for a surprise with the release of iphone 4 -white as the new ip5?
It's not. Apple doesn't do that and they have been set on a September release for some months now.

It's good to see the debate on the best delivery mechanism for large software releases such as this; there are clearly benefits for Apple to push it through the infrastructure they already have in place.
In my opinion, this is just another nail in the coffin for Apple resellers. Not content with giving single-digit margins on hardware, Apple is now actively removing another method of generating revenue. Software has better reseller margins (~15-20%) than hardware, but Apple's progress with the App store has seen key applications (iWork, iLife) on there for a substantial discount.
There are no reseller/affiliate arrangements for the App store, and resellers can't compete with their discount offerings (as Apple set both wholesale and retail pricing). As a result, resellers business will be affected, and continue to be affected if they continue down this path.
